When felt was discovered. There are various legends about the origins of felt. They all refer to the chance combination of wool, moisture and handiwork.
Felting is a traditional and intensive textile art. Felt can be made in all kinds of thicknesses and is resistant to all weathers.
Sometimes – when we least want it to happen – we take a woollen jersey out of the washing machine only to find it is several sizes smaller. The felting process has then carried on unhindered. What causes this? This is the result of washing at too high a temperature, with too much soap powder and the very agitated motion of the machine itself. Precisely all the things that we need to make felt.
The felting process is set in motion with the help of heat, water, soap, motion and pressure – this is what is known as wet felting.
I use this type of felting for my products.
